Northern Slate Supplies Limited
Brazilian Graphite Grey natural slates
Brazilian slates are mined in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil, they produce two colours Graphite grey and Grey Green. They have a flat smooth surface with a slight
tonal surface colour variation and a dressed edge detail. Supplied pre holed.
Having already been through the most stringent production process they are annually tested to the current British and European BS EN12326 standards. The selection is classed as a Prime Grade and is supplied in a 5-7mm or 7-9mm selection.
The slates were originally very popular and selected for projects in the Southwest of England, Devon and Cornwall due to their colour and consistency being in keeping with slates traditionally quarried in that region. But the colour and quality has now proven the slate to be at home in all regions of the UK. The slate represents great value for money without compromising on quality or social and environmental responsibility.
The slates have proven themselves to be at their most cost effective when hook fixed, this is based upon its uniformity of selection and grade allowing hooks to give an ease of fixing. Information on the use of fixing slates with hooks can be provided.
As detailed these slates are tested to BS EN12326 on a yearly basis as per the UK requirements to determine the quality, performance, and life expectancy of the slate. When tested they receive a W1, T1 and S1 certification with excellent flexural strength and non-carbonate content.
A full Declaration of Performance (D o P) can be provided upon request.
Slates should be laid in accordance with BS5534 & BS8000. The site location pitch of roof and exposure rating will determine the slate size, pattern, head lap and fixing specification for the slates. As noted, before it is recommended to consider spike end coated s/s slate hooks with Brazilian slates. A fixing specification is available upon request.
